Son-Rise
The Son-Rise Program ®, created by Barry and Samahria Kaufman of the Options Institute, Sheffield Massachusetts, for their son, Raun, has been used by many families all over the world to develop their Autistic Spectrum Disorder ("ASD") challenged children.
The program teaches a specific and comprehensive system of treatment and education designed to help families and caregivers enable their children to dramatically improve in all areas of learning, development, communication and skill acquisition. It offers highly effective educational techniques, strategies and principles for designing, implementing and maintaining a stimulating, high-energy, one-on-one, home-based, child-centered program.
The most important things about the Son-Rise approach are:
- A non-judgemental attitude with total acceptance of the child as they are.
- Emphasising the interaction over the goal.
- Entering the child’s world to build a relationship - only then encouraging the child to join us in our world.
- Authenticity in all that we do.
- The belief that the best resource for the child is the parents and volunteers.
